It was always the color.
Time and time again,
I would bring pillows home only to return them because
the colors just didn't blend well with the other fabrics on the porch.

The sun is rising and the weather is mild.
The birds are feeding, singing, and the squirrels are chattering.
So should you decide to stop by our house,
come on around back,
you'll find us on the screened porch.
Starting our day with early morning breakfast
and a cup of coffee or two...
We will be in the rocking chairs,
our eyes on the courtyard,
watching birds sipping and splashing in the birdbath,
while others are feeding their babies at the feeders hanging from the old maple tree...
Thankfully the porch stays shaded all day long.
Sometimes there will be mid-morning coffee and muffins with a girlfriend,
sitting here at the table time just flies by as we
sip our drink, eat sweet things, and share what we've been up to...
Sometimes at noontime,
if Mr. Heart's schedule allows,
we'll have lunch out here...
Ellie-Mae, Coco, and Bella enjoy it too...

Later in the day we will head out again,
maybe there will be an evening shower and rolling thunder too?

The birds are still singing,
the squirrels still chattering,
and we enjoy our supper out on the porch.
As the sun is setting,
we nestle in our rocking chairs,
the candles are lit,
the sounds are still soothing,
sharing about our day.
We have tossed around the idea of converting this area into a four seasons sun room, hmm....
maybe we'll add a fireplace instead.

The screened porch is a favorite spot for us from early spring through late fall.
Mr. Heart and I have our coffee and breakfast here most every morning before he starts his work day. We enjoy watching the birds visit the feeders and hearing the early birds sing their songs. This is also where we often end up when family and friends come to visit and it is truly the perfect spot when it is raining outside...so relaxing!

This picture of the porch is facing the laundry room door which is how we access the screened porch from the house. If you leave the porch through the screened door you’ll be on the deck that leads to the great room entrance of the house…
Mostly our porch is decorated with a little bit of this and a little bit of that, things we have accumulated over time that have found a home out here. This actually works out well because it does get damp and dirty on the porch and to clean it I use the water hose, spraying it from top to bottom! So, if purchasing new and nice decor for a screened porch, it should definitely be labeled for outdoor use.
The centerpiece on the table are snippets of Lantana, hosta and a bit of Asparagus Fern from the pots on the deck…
In the far corner is a vintage wash basin that now holds a fern…
This view is in the opposite direction. If you exit the screened porch through this door you will step down to a courtyard. To the left is the main driveway. To the right you will find the detached garage and the driveway where we keep our camper parked.

The table fan was purchased from TJ Maxx several years ago and the two black fans under the table are brought out in the summer months to help keep the breeze flowing! Thankfully the porch is on the back of the house so it doesn’t get direct sun. The door between the table and hutch leads to a storage room...

The old roaster is used to keep a few birds nests we’ve found. Two of the nests still have eggs in them. I don’t know what happened to the momma bird, but the eggs were dried up when I found the nests. To be really sure the eggs were old, we placed some dental floss across the nest in a couple of areas and watched it for a few days. It was never disturbed so we knew there was no momma bird coming back to the nest.
The butterfly was found as it was being blown across the courtyard. It was is in perfect condition so I can’t imagine what happened to it. So beautiful!
Through the screen in this picture is the back courtyard and the deck leading to the great room entrance of the house. This furniture is from Martha Stewart’s collection and was purchased on sale many years ago.
On the table is a vintage basket with a few artichoke tealight holders. I’ve used them for vases by removing the tealight and adding a bit of hosta and Asparagus Fern…
This wicker chair and table set, the two wicker side chairs at the back of the porch and the seat cushions are from Pier One. We’ve had them a few years and they are holding up nicely on the porch…

We have remodeled our screen porch...the tile that is.

I agree...it is not only ugly, it is awful!
When we purchased our home the screen porch had a fresh coat of gray paint and it was pretty. Within six months the paint began to peel and over the next 8 years the paint continued to peel, in bigger and bigger chunks. Evidently the porch floor had been painted at least 5 times; A dark hunter green, several shades of gray, white and a pinky-coral color...YUCK!
For me, not only was the peeling paint unsightly, but it was very hard to keep the porch clean. Peeling paint makes for a constant mess! This re-do, as they all are it seems, was difficult. Largely due to the concrete being uneven and also because there was no good way to remove all the paint that was choosing to "stay stuck." We had several tile guys and handy men come give us their "suggestions" for what to do and most walked away scratching their heads.
So, we got busy searching for ways to remove the paint and what to do to re-surface the area. The porch is about 325 square feet.
To remove the paint, Mr. Heart spent several weekends with the power washer spraying every square inch with much force and determination to remove the old paint. His poor back and neck!
And finally, last fall we found a solution and had it installed. Slate...much better don't ya think?!
Well, now it is Spring and time to clean off the porch to get it ready for the season.
For this I pull out the big guns, not just a broom but the WATER HOSE!
All the decorations and plants are removed and from the ceiling down, everything gets a scrubbing...
The ceiling, screens, woodwork, furniture, shelving, everything!
I love this flooring but after washing and the water dries, often the water droplets leave water spots...
So after washing the porch I sweep out the extra water with a broom.
Below you can see the center is swept out and the far right are the droplets that are there if you don't sweep...
So, I'm not finished...
This is the water left after sweeping and if left to dry water spots will appear, so...
I get my handy-dandy thing-a-majiggy and it sucks up every drop of water lickity split!
One stroke and no more water...I love it!
This cellulose mop is wonderful!
Ok, I know what you are thinking...that's alot of work!
It kind of is and has to be done several times a year, but considering how pretty the floors look when finished and how often we use the screened porch...it's worth it!
Now, on to getting the porch all pretty...
