JOSS & MAIN in the KITCHEN ~ A Dream & A Plan

Saturday, October 19, 2013

I have a dream.

And a plan.

So I REALLY hope that once everything is finished my dream does comes true.

Remember our kitchen remodel plan that I shared?  Come Follow Along.

Well, part of the plan is an eat-in-kitchen area with table, chairs, and a few pieces for extra storage.

See the refrigerator on the right side wall?  This wall will be removed so the current kitchen area will be combined with the adjoining den area for our new bigger kitchen.

The current sink, oven and cabinetry will be removed so the current kitchen area will become just the eat-in area.

This is one of my inspiration pictures.  I really like the white parameter cabinetry with the cherry center island and the dark wood flooring.

I have been considering what to use for the table and chairs in the eat-in-kitchen area.

I really like the "feel" of this eat-in-area, a touch of historic flair that is also fresh and bright.

If we proceed with the plan,

we will have white cabinetry on the parameter walls, which will make for a bright kitchen area.

We will also have a cherry center island, possibly be 5' x 10' in size, as well as dark Brazilian floors.

If the plan is dark cherry floors throughout the downstairs area,

and a big dark cherry island,

and the eat-in kitchen will be just off the dining room which has a mahogany table and chairs...

I am not sure that using a dark wood table and chairs, like the one in the picture above, would be the right choice.  I do want the kitchen and eat-in-area to stay light and airy...

Too many decisions!!!
I am very thankful to be getting a new kitchen, but it is very stressful in making sure the plan is right, and the decisions made are wise and cost effective, with an end result that is HOPEFULLY all we have envisioned!

With the above in mind, we will lighter tones for the table, chairs and the hutches that we use in the eat-in-kitchen area.

One of the hutches will be this antique walnut piece from the early 1800's.

And the table will be a glass top table that we already own.  Not only will this save us money by not buying a new table,

but a glass table will give us a large eating area that won't "stop the eye" and make the space feel small as a solid wood table may and will be a different feel coming in from the dining room...

The table has a French flair, with pretty curves and detailing, and the glass top allows for a light and airy feeling in the space.  Possibly some chalk paint in her future?

I hadn't planned on purchasing chairs to go with this table until after the kitchen was finished,

BUT,

I found some beauties on Joss & Main that I thought would be perfect, so I had to act fast...

For seating that would add softness to the room and also help to keep things light, we chose four Parson's chairs for each side of the table.

For each end of the table we chose arm chairs in a light wood tone.

It was fun opening these boxes, felt like Christmas!  Actually, I'm sure all of this remodel will be our Christmas!!! (and birthdays, and anniversaries...)

When ordering online you take some chances...
I really like the button details on the Parson's chairs and the shabby-tailored look, whew!

The nail head trim, wood details, and tones on the arm chairs look wonderful with the Parson's chairs. And the fabric on all the chairs look great together too, whew!

They also look great beside my early 1800's cupboard, whew!

I measured as well as I could using the dimensions given online and the arms fit underneath the table perfectly, whew!  I took a chance ordering these online and so far, so good!

Here are the table and chairs all together.  I am really considering introducing my table base to some chalk paint.

Yes,

I have a dream,

and a plan,

and I sure hope that when all is said and done,

the table, chairs, and hutch look really good on dark cherry floors in our new eat-in-kitchen!

Blessings,
Cindy

  5. You might be able to get away with this, but those white chairs wouldn't last 5 minutes in my house. The grandkids aren't the only ones that put their feet in the chairs, I do too!

  6. Your on a roll Cindy!!!! in love with your table too and those chairs are perfect!!!!! Making decisions for something that cost so much, like the kitchen, is always tough, but I see your inspiration photo and I know your on the right direction. Agree with you on not going dark on your floors if your island is dark cherry. Good luck!

  13. My comment disappeared! I really like your choices for your new kitchen. It's going to be so pretty! White kitchens are my very favorite, and the island will break up the white just enough.
My sofa table is a perfect match to your dining table. It has glass inserts that are leaded and beveled!

  14. I've never done a complete kitchen remodel before, so I can only imagine all of the decisions you have to make at once. I like the direction you're going in with it. Love your new chairs for your table. I definitely think repainting the table would look better. Maybe a color to match the skirted chairs?
