ANTIQUE KITCHEN CUPBOARD

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Hi Sweet Friends!
Between our den and kitchen is an antique cupboard.

Anqitue Cupboard

The top piece is an old hutch that is actually made to hang on a wall…

and the bottom piece is an old flour bin…

Antique Flour Bin

Years ago when looking for a cupboard I found this flour bin and thought it would be great for storing placemats, table runners, and cloths….but I needed a top for it.  Months later I found this hutch hanging on a wall in an antique store.

You can see how the hutch rests on top of the flour bin…

My cupboard is full of Roo’s and you may also notice a little bird on the left side hutch door…

Antique Cupboard 4

This sweet cardinal, a gift from my sister, attaches to glass doors.  It is in two pieces and each side has a magnet that holds them together through the glass.
The cardinal’s head is on the outside of the hutch door glass and the wing is on the inside…

In the cupboard are old cracker and snuff tins, ceramic pieces and roosters.
The dishes are the California Provincial Poppytrail pattern by Metlox.  My mother-in-law had given me a few pieces in this pattern about 20 years ago and I still enjoy hunting for more pieces when out antiquing…

Antique Cupboard 6

Hens on nests, antique thermometers,  a Sylvester butter dish that when open you see Tweety hiding inside…

Antique Cupboard 5

The hens on the nest are some of my favorite pieces…

I think the salt and pepper shakers are adorable…

Rooster Salt & Pepper

My husband’s grandmother hand painted this rooster.  I just love how the rooster’s head hangs down over the ledge…

I’m happy that my cupboard is missing a few pieces of glass so when the cupboard doors are closed the rooster’s head hangs perfectly…

Rooster 2

A big ole’ hen and some blue and white for a bit of pretty…

Some lemons with a touch of red and white on top…

I’m trying to make sure I still have a place for this cupboard when we remodel the kitchen but it’s proving to be a challenge, we’ll see!

Thanks so much for visiting, please leave a comment so I’ll know you did!

Blessings,
Cindy

DO YOU LIKE ROO'S?

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Hi Sweet Friends!

So tell me, do you like Roo's?

I've been doing some spring cleaning and I need to spruce up my old cupboard full of hens and roosters...

This is just a peek cause I've got more sprucing to do, but this got me to thinking about how to tell the difference between a chicken and a rooster.  Do you know how to tell the difference?

I went online to look for the answer and it seems that even the professionals have a hard time telling the difference, so here's an article if you'd like to check it out...How to tell a chicken from a rooster!
In the end, if you really want to know if your bird is a chicken or a rooster you need to do as one commenter suggested, take it to an Avian vet and have a DNA Test done.
LOL...just a bit of fun if you need something to read over the weekend!

A HUGE THANK YOU  to ALL who have served and are currently serving to defend our FREEDOM!
God Bless You!

Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Blessings,
Cindy

A Sweetgrass Welcome

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

I am so behind in adding spring flowers to my pots and to our front entry
but
finally
have
sweetgrass baskets
to welcome our guests!

dogwood blooms

I always admire the Sweetgrass baskets at the homes on the Plantation Home Tour in Georgetown, SC.  Especially those baskets used to decorate front entries…

For years I have wanted to get two of these baskets for my front entry doors but they are usually sold out by the time I make it to the Oaks Plantation where Mazie Brown has her sweetgrass baskets for sale.

Mazie Brown Sweetgrass Baskets

Well guess what?  This year Mazie still had a few of her door baskets so we got two!
They are rather expensive but considering Mazie has to collect the sweet grass, prepare it for weaving and then spend hours hand weaving these creations, it truly is a pleasure to support her craft.  I think they are beautiful!

Decided to use white silk flowers and greenery…

To hold the arrangement together I used floral styrofoam that I picked up at the dollar store...

Floral Styrofoam

Cut it to size,
I like to use a plastic knife.

Cut the Floral Styrofoam

Placed the cut styrofoam into the baskets for a real snug fit and then add the greenery.

Ellie-Mae was my assistant.
She loves to lay her head on the floor and then cut her eyes looking up at me.  This pup has a huge hold on my heart!

Since we have double doors for our front entry I wanted to add most of the greenery and flowers on different sides of the baskets rather than filling up the center…

Greenery

I have more to add, but they are coming together…

Blooms

After removing the old wreaths
I cleaned the glass and my towels were green from all the pollen.

Double doors

Here they are.

Now I need to replace the sad looking pansies in the porch urns with some ferns!
