It's been fun pulling the guest room together and it's finally finished!

I wanted this room to feel warm and cozy with colonial farmhouse touches.  I also wanted to furnish it by shopping the house; spending as little as possible by using what I already have and hoping it comes together well.

I didn't paint the room or purchase curtains.  The walls were already a pale yellow with red drapes hanging, so that was my starting point; bright walls and curtains in my favorite color...red!

Guest Room Progress

The guest room, turned office, is being turned back to a guest room again.

I want this room to feel warm and cozy, so I'm adding colonial farmhouse style furnishings and accessories.  There's been a lot of progress since I shared the Guest Room Sneak Peek with you;
the cupboard is finished and a few new finds have been added too!

Hoot! Hoot! He's So Cute in the Keeping Room

My Hydrangea Morning was productive and the cuttings are drying nicely.

I was so glad to have the hydrangea cut and in containers of water for the drying process

but I also wanted to place some around the house to enjoy while they are drying.

I found the perfect vase for just that
and
hoot-hoot...he's so cute!

Adding to Collections

Those of you who follow me regularly know my home is decorated with pieces collected over time.
Family heirlooms are my favorite, I'm drawn to the old and well worn, and most pieces have tugged at my heart in some way...speaking to me.

I love nice things, but they must be practical, comfortable, and keeping the budget in mind I've found that searching and patience go hand in hand.   Above all, I do hope our home is a warm and cozy place for all who enter.

I enjoy the hunt and it's especially fun finding pieces that help complete a set, like this Blue Onion sweets canister.

An old strainer used as a vase, isn't that clever!

My mother still uses a strainer like this for making gravy at Christmas and Thanksgiving!  You'll be happy to know, hers isn't rusty! 

There is something so charming about tiny tables.  This one came with a HEFTY price...

Window seat anyone?... 

Saw several antique thread chests along the way...

 A primitive patch with cloth dolls, quilted pillows and gourds...

Large wood door with a white shelf, ironstone on a black chest...what's not to love? 

Lots of white and green...

I wanted to bring this three tier candle stand home with me, thought it would look GREAT on my porch... 

A white and blue cupboard, such a pretty combination!

Lace ferns everywhere...such a pretty touch!

Tiny chairs are charming too.  Love this one with the basket of blooms...

So many things caught my eye, but guess what?  I didn't buy a thing!

English Cobalt Blue & Silver

You may remember me recently sharing this English 1950's cobalt blue and silver coffee canister with you.
It was one of the VINTAGE FINDS that I was taking to my shop to sell.

Well…

Mr. Heart and I did a little antiquing while in South Carolina this weekend and we found these salt and pepper shakers.

Makes for a nice set don’t you think?

I do believe the set will be staying with  me.

Now I’m on the hunt to find the sugar and tea canister.  I love hunting for treasures, this should be fun!

Vintage Finds...


Blue and White and Silver…oh my!

Always nice when a day of thrifting ends with some great vintage finds!

Thought I would share a few with you…

Love the blue and white plates.  They already have hangers, so just add a nail and done!

The English coffee canister with spoon for easy measuring…love the cobalt blue glass!

The silver heart would be sweet on a dresser.

The perfect little spot to place your rings at the end of the day.

Oh yes, found some chippy yellow too…

    

Isn’t this the cutest little thing?

I’m not sure what it was, or is…but I thought it would be a GREAT little “grab when needed” table for the porch.  The perfect size for a glass or two of some sweet iced tea!

Wish I was keeping these, but they'll be going to the shop and hopefully finding a NEW home real soon!

Guest Room & Treasures

It has taken a little time but our guest room has finally come together.

It all started with these pretty pictures, a gift from my cousin.
They became the inspiration for our guest room.

 

My favorite color is red and these prints have most every shade of red and pink imaginable which helped with choosing the paint color… a soft green!

The draperies came next and started out as panels in red dupioni silk but something wasn’t quite right, so they were moved to Mr. Heart’s office and look very nice there.

I kept looking,
but began to think I would never find any window treatments that I liked at a price I was willing to pay, and then I found these.  It was love at first sight…

Welcome to our downstairs guest room…

These needlepoint pictures were found while antiquing with a friend.
They were in black frames and filthy dirty but I just couldn’t walk away from these two girls!
With a good cleaning and some ASCP they turned out beautifully.

The floor lamp is very special to me.
A few years ago a friend of mine gave it to me as a gift...what a surprise!

Her grandmother passed this lamp down to her mother,
who then passed it down her.
Three generations in this family and then it was passed to me!

I was surprised, thankful and humbled to be given such a treasured piece and I will cherish it all of my days!

This sweet chair was my sisters.  She was redecorating her home and didn't need it any longer so she gave it to my mother who then gave it to me...yippee!

Mr. Heart and I purchased the dresser and chest of drawers at auction.

I did this cross stitch many years ago, it's one of my favorite Bible verses…

The draperies were such a great price that I bought extra panels.
To compliment the matelasse coverlet and shams the extra material was used to make the bed skirt and bolster pillow…

 

This side table was purchased from missionary friends who were raising funds for their call to Italy.  It is being moved to another room because I found a little something…

A friend and I visited some shops around town and one was having a clearance sale with everything marked 50% off.

I was just about to leave the area when I noticed some Carrara marble.  I couldn’t see the piece of furniture because there was a pile of stuff stacked on top of it,
so I got busy clearing everything off and I couldn’t believe my eyes! 
Well, I think I hit gold…

Here she is in her new home…

 

Preferring rooms that are collected over time, this room definitely fits the bill.

It is full of pieces that hold sentimental value,
many were purchased at auction,
and some found while antiquing…mission accomplished!
I am real happy with how it has come together.
