Hanging Antique Plates and Preserving History

Friday, June 12, 2015

For a while now I've been looking for some plates to hang on each side of the living room mirror,
but wasn't having much luck.  The plates I came across were too big, the wrong colors, all the same pattern, or too pricey.

Then,
waiting for me at the antique shop just up the road,
were six plates with the perfect pattern and size for the spot.

The Living Room

I thought I would share the living room with you today.
This room has been furnished with family heirlooms and pieces collected over time.

Waverly fabrics were used for the window treatments, the camel back sofa, and also to reupholster Granny's chair which happens to be our kitty Jet's favorite spot to perch.

The wall clock and table lamp are pieces from my husband's family.
The corner shelf and side table were purchased at auction.

The Damask sofa was also purchased at auction a few years ago
and the pewter tea set and Duncan Phyfe table were consignment finds.

The cross stitched pillow was handmade for me by my sister
and this sofa happens to be Bella's favorite spot to nap.

The two-tier table was Granny's and though these particular figurines weren't hers, they do remind me of her, she loved occupied Japan figurines.

I got my love for figurines from my Granny and there is one in this cabinet that is very dear to my heart.

This figurine is my favorite of all.

Since a very little girl I have admired this piece,
as it sat prominently in Granny's hutch for all my childhood years,
and she knew how much I adored it.

She wrote To Cindy, From Granny on the bottom
to ensure that one day it would be mine.

I'll cherish it forever!

Hope you enjoyed the tour of the living room.

Aren't home tours so much fun!
Most every year Mr. Heart and I go on plantation tours in SC,
we enjoy builder home tours as they showcase new homes in town,
and blog land is full of beautiful home tours.

We have opened our home by participating in Christmas home tours here in our area,
but only recently when talking with a friend did I realized that you've mostly seen snippets of rooms in our home, so a tour is due.  The sun is finally shinning again but more rain is on the way so I plan on snapping pictures today...

Here’s a peek at the living room and dining room.
