Lazing, Hanging and Thieving

Thursday, September 3, 2015

I was in the kitchen minding my own business,
thinking about this and that as I washed and dried the dishes,
when I looked up and noticed something odd outside the kitchen window.

A blob of something was just beneath the magnolia tree.

I thought to myself, "what in the world is that?"

I grabbed my camera, zoomed in and there he was.

His head was flat on the ground with arms and legs stretched out far and wide; spread eagle and lazing!

This squirrel is just hanging out!

Then his head popped up and his eye turned my way just a bit.
Squirrels have a keen sense about them.
It's was as though he knew I was watching.

No sooner had I snapped a few pictures when lickety-split,
he was at the kitchen window scurrying up the dogwood tree.

Thieving squirrel!

Nap time was over and he was on a mission to do a little thieving!

Thieving squirrel!

Yep...the bird seed must have been calling his name.

Thieving squirrel!

Thieving squirrel!

Thieving squirrel!

Thieving squirrel!

Thieving squirrel!

Hanging and thieving!
He watched me and I watched him.

A little later that day the mister and I were rocking on the front porch
when this little fella scurried on the sidewalk in front of us, hopped onto the porch and climbed up the tree.

He settled on the branch with arms and legs just hanging.

He got up and turned the other direction.

Then he turned back the other way again.

Backyard squirrel

He would rest, look at us, rest a little more, change positions...a busy little fella!

He started wiping his face on the branch and then he was off!

We often see Barred Owls in this tree too.

Never a dull moment around here
and
I
wouldn't
have
it
any
other
way!

  4. How cute!! We spotted a little squirrel at my in-laws house the other day all spread eagle like that. We thought maybe he was cooling off because it was so hot here. I know some people think squirrels are a nuisance but they are adorable to me.

  5. You caught some great shots of the lazing squirrels, Cindy! I don't think I've ever seen them sit still long enough to do that in my neck of the woods. :)

  10. I've never seen a squirrel with legs outstretched or lounging on a beach like that. We have plenty around here, although our Greyhound keeps them at bay when he is outside. When they make it into the yard, they drain the bird feeders very quickly :( I like the black squirrels best...we don't see as many of them around here.

  12. Those are wonderful pics, Cindy! It's so cool that you were able to capture so many shots of this cute little guy. The way he was hanging over the tree branch with all fours dangling, is exactly the way our cat likes to lay on the sofa arm. Thanks for sharing your little thief with us!

  14. Cindy,
I'm just sure this little guy is a cousin of our resident squirrel affectionately named "Fred"!!!
This morning, "Fred" came to the patio door and looked in at "Mr. Ed"!!!
Sure enough, the ear of corn was empty!!!
Although we are still having 90+ temperature days here on the Prairie,
Mother Nature is telling them to be busy that Winter's a comin'!!!
Thanks for sharing you lazing, hanging, thieving little guy with us!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
P.S. I'm quite smitten with your new header!!! Beautiful, dear friend!!!

  15. We have a couple of sneaky squirls around my house. They dig in my flower pots! When Mikey was with us he was no help with shooing the squirls back. Ha! Sheila

  16. What a cutie pie he is! My father in law despises squirrels after they got into the hood of his truck and ate up all the wiring. Hope you have a fab holiday weekend Cindy!
