In the Kitchen and Keeping Room...

Friday, December 5, 2014

We have finally settled in.
Well you know how that goes, settled for now.  I'm always changing things up!

The day after Thanksgiving is usually when we head to the tree lot for our Christmas tree and the house decorating is about finished by the Sunday after.  I haven't been able to stick to that schedule this year due to the renovation.

So before I start bringing in Christmas, which will hopefully be today (yippee!), I wanted to share how we've settled in!

I was so hoping this would turn out to be a cozy space, and it has.
We really enjoy watching the early morning sun coming into the kitchen and keeping room as we eat our breakfast...

The cupboard is full...

The cabinets are too!
The most fun was adding the Wedgwood china to the glass front cupboards...

Here's a closer view of the pattern in the glass,
chosen because its subtle and doesn't obstruct the view...

The antique wooden box is full of old tableware that belonged to my aunt and paternal grandmother...

The canisters are full too and I can't wait to start baking for Christmas...

Granny's green and white rooster cups are being used as scoops...

The antique scale I found a few months back has found a home..

We had a hard time deciding on seating for the island.
When I saw these Threshold bar stools at Target, with their farmhouse style, I thought they would work great!  The linen goes well with our chairs and I love the nail head trim...

We purchased the chairs from Joss & Main, they are perfect with our farmhouse style table.   I know what some of you may be thinking, a glass top farmhouse table?  Yep!

I wanted our new space to feel light and airy.  So the light fixture is large and makes a statement but doesn't stop the eye and the glass top table does the same...

The clock was a kitchen warming present from our daughter, she knows me so well!
Love roosters and red is my favorite color...

One of my favorite features in the kitchen is the TV.

Its hidden when not in use
but easy to access and position whether cooking, eating lunch at the island or sitting in front of the fire...

Just behind the window sink is a little more blue and white.
An electric pot that belonged to my maternal grandmother and the egg cup that I've filled with toothpicks was a gift from a friend...

Coming from a windowless kitchen I love having a view, especially at sunset...

I can't wait to begin decorating for Christmas, I bet you are finished aren't you?

  10. Cindy, your new kitchen and keeping room are beautiful. Your curvy cupboard, dressed in its Christmas best, is such a charming feature. I think I'd spend the better part of my mornings right there next to it, nestled in a cozy armchair, enjoying my first cup of coffee and planning my day. Enjoy it!

  19. Morning Cindy,
Love how you have accessorized your kitchen, it looks awesome. Your china looks so pretty in those gorgeous glass
front cabinets, and I can see you found just the perfect spot for your daughters gift, that is such a neat clock, love it.
So nice that you have pretty views like sunrises and sunsets now, what a lovely change, especially since you are a
nature lover............can't wait to see it all guzzied up for Christmas.........Know you are really enjoying it.
Have a great time decorating, am hoping to get some done today myself. Hubby put the tree up last night, it is an
artificial one we bought last year, and it was up with tree skirt and all in less than an hour, used take him 2 nights
to put it together and put the lights on..............so we are thrilled with the new tree, still have to decorate it tho. lol
    Take care hon,
Blessings for a wonderful Christmas season,
    Nellie

  20. Cindy, I just LOVE your new kitchen! And what a wonderful testimony to the Truth that God DOES gives us the desires of our hearts! It is just beautiful and I am so very happy for you! Right now I live in a Colonial style home in the northeast. I am a widow and empty nester so I want to down size soon and my desire is to move to a smaller place but with lots of room to display my large collection of Depression glass...Sounds crazy but I believe God can do that! Have a blessed Christmas decorating your lovely home!
