HOME TOUR #3 ~ Historic Homes, Plantations & Gardens

Hi sweet friends!
Guess what, these are the final homes on the tour!

Mr. Heart and I never tire of touring these historic homes, plantations and gardens.  Though the homes on the tour are rotated from year to year, we have been coming for so long that it isn’t often there is one on the tour we haven’t seen before. On the first tour I shared that I couldn’t put my finger on what it is that keeps us coming back to see the same homes year after year; the history, beauty, simplicity, grandeur, gardens, tranquility, or the hundred year old live oak trees draped in moss?  Surely it is all of the above as each contributes to the overwhelming feeling of appreciation we experience while touring them!

Here we go…

ESTHERVILLE PLANTATION
Such a beautiful entrance…

Walking up the paths toward the house we catch a glimpse through the azalea garden…

The property is full of live oak trees with pathway after pathway through the azalea gardens.  Peaceful, birds singing, with beauty all around, truly a beautiful place to stroll

Beautiful old brick and places on either side of the steps to clean your shoes before stepping onto the porch…

These side stairs leading to the porch were covered in moss and ferns…makes me SMILE!

THE OAKS PLANTATION

This home is fairly new but was built on the old plantation site.  It is beautiful!

Would you like a sweet grass basket?  If so, you can get one here…
OAKS PLANTATION

If you’ve been on all three tours you’ve noticed that many SC folks use sweet grass baskets on their entry doors.  This one is full of fresh cut greenery, dogwood blooms, and a bit of moss.  So charming…

The heart of Georgetown is full of beautiful homes so we went for a little walk.  Though they weren’t on the tour, we enjoyed the sidewalk views…

So nice to meet you! I am a house fanatic and especially love touring beautiful old gems like the ones you have featured here today! My favourite is the second last house with the turquoise door- absolutely charming!! The wreath tradition is very pretty. Thanks for the very informative and interesting post!

  14. Love the tour of old homes! The moss covered steps made me smile, too! I've been through Georgetown many times going to Charleston, but never the "pretty part." I've got to take my time and look around when I'm down that way again! :)

  30. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! I love southern plantations with all their beautiful, architectural details. I'm from up north but always enjoyed our vacations to the Southeast part of our country. Charleston, Beaufort, Savannah ... I think I enjoyed walking around looking at the old homes more than I did hanging out at the beach! Thanks for the amazing tour.
