It's Exciting

There are some things I'll never grow tired of.

Some are small

and some are very large,

but no matter their size it is always exciting to see the Barred Owls back at the porch.

There must be something special about this tree at the end of our porch

because they come very often to perch and spend the day...

I recently shared our Summer Garden with you and this was one of the pictures.

Notice the branch above the farthest rocker, this is one of the branches the owls perch on...

The owls don't seem to mind us.

We let Ellie-Mae outside,
and they watch us and her.

We rock on the porch,
 and they watch us.

I take pictures of them,
and they watch me.

The owls are very high up in the tree so to get close up pictures I have to use my zoom lens.

They must feel safe and not threatened by us,

they just close their eyes and rest, opening them every now and again to watch us,

and have never flown away because we were around.

When they see something interesting like a bird or squirrel,

they perk up and their eyes get so big, round and bright...

guess they are thinking about supper?

In reading about these owls I learned that they don't migrate, they don't even move around very much.
Of 158 birds that were banned and then found later, none had moved farther than 6 miles away.

The oldest Barred owl on record was at least 24 years old.

It's always exciting seeing the owls visit the porch,

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

so amazingly well........these could be in National Geographic, seriously!!

Neat that they just watch yall and aren't threatened or scared away. So how long do they
keep coming, is it just certain times of the year, or do they come and go all year??

    Enjoy those owls........very neat!
