Fall Touches in the Keeping Room

Spring and fall are my two favorite seasons. So why do they pass so quickly?
This fall has been an amazing show of color up in the mountains and I find myself longing for it to last...but the leaves are falling.  The wind and rain come, and more leaves fall.  I realize the show will soon be over leaving a beautiful memory and a longing for next year.

Bringing a bit off fall into the keeping room has been fun.  Simple touches are added here and there by using things on hand and snippets from the garden.

On the hutch is a pair of squirrels and a bit of fall colored stems, one is resting in an ironstone compote.  The pillows are embroidered with fall leaves and berries.

During the fall season I enjoy using my Metlox Poppytrail California Provincial collection.  The colors are perfect for fall and I love the rooster pattern.  On the mantel is a teapot filled with loropetalum clippings and limelight hydrangea and a shed antler on either side.

Candles are always burning in my home.  There is nothing prettier than candlelight and the scents always fit the season...like pumpkin spice for fall...so nice!

I enjoy using this pumpkin for the fall season, the cutout design is so pretty.  There is a tiny light inside but can only be seen when the room is very dark.  So, the candlelight does the trick by adding a warm glow to this vignette.

The pumpkin sits on a cake stand with little acorns and pumpkins sprinkled around the base.  Some of them have sparkles which is especially pretty to see in the late afternoon when the sun is setting and just a bit of soft sunlight streams in.

For the front window I've used an antique oil lamp, some fall colored sprigs and my rooster...he's my fave and always in the kitchen.

To complete the keeping room, fall colored stems are placed around the base of a glass hurricane that is filled with a candle and acorns.  The table runner matches the chair color with rings of fall colored felt leaves and berries on either side.

I'm holding on to fall for as long as possible, at least through Thanksgiving.
How about you...when do you decorate for Christmas?
