The Front Entry ~ Keeping It Simple

Finally, the entry is done!
When everything is in full bloom it can be a challenge to photograph the front of the house, especially in the afternoon when full sun is on the porch.

Notice the white furry thing on the front lawn?

Missy Mae (Ellie-Mae) is enjoying the cool green grass...

This spring I wanted to keep the entry simple by using sweetgrass baskets filled with white flowers and a bit of trialing moss, the same as last year.  The flowers still looked brand new, so why buy more...right?!

To stay with my simple theme I used ferns to fill the urns,
they are easy to care for and oh so Southern...

The entry is done, now I need to decide on which plants to use in the urns out back that are in the courtyard and on the deck.  The deck gets full sun most of the day so I usually incorporate Lantana because they can take the heat and the hummingbirds love them.

Hope you are having a GREAT week!

  1. Very pretty, Cindy. Generally, I don't like to put plants on my porch because I don't want the residual dirt and water. I spend so much time already watering annuals, the thought of more just keeps me from going there. But seeing how pretty yours is is certainly inspiring. Waiting on a kitchen progress post - how's it coming? Hope your week is going well.

  4. Your entry is beautiful. It would be a shame not to reuse your sweet grass baskets, I'm glad you did. You can't go wrong with ferns either. As time passes I love them more and more.

  7. Ah I see that you are another Lantana fan ! :) Around here, sometimes the local grocery stores will carry it / sometimes not. I have not seen seeds for it so I generally go out to a nursery that always has it. If I go prior to Mother's Day I can get it in the little 3 or 4 inch pots and save a bit of money that way. ( it's going in the ground...why pay extra for the hanging basket? ) Ellie May is adorable in this picture :)

  15. I've always loved your Entry Cindy, and this time around, it still looks perfect than ever before! I really love the baskets on the door like I said before, you remind me that I need to make some wreaths on mine or something similar to yours. Ellie mae is oh-so-lovely and seems content and happy to have her picture taken too!

  16. The ferns are perfect for those urns, and I agree on the flower choice: if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Nice faux flowers can be really expensive so it's nice to be able to save where you can. xoKathleen
