A Celebration & Happy Spring!

Happy first day of SPRING!

It's a bit cold and rainy here today on the first official day of spring, but that's alright.  The weather was perfect on Tuesday when our family gathered to celebrate a very special breast cancer survivor.

It was St. Patrick's Day 2012 when mother received her breast cancer diagnosis
and the family got together on her three year anniversary date to celebrate mom and how thankful we are for her.

Mother loves to cook, so she planned the meal and prepared most of it, but we had the celebration here.  With pink tulips from Costco and daffodils from the garden, each table had a spring centerpiece.

Most of the family was here so the house was full!
Some were seated for supper in the keeping room...

The youngest children were seated at the island where shamrocks and balloons added a festive touch.
I didn't get pictures of the table settings or the countertops lined with mom's scrumptious food, (too much going on) but take my word for it, there were several meats, an array of vegetables, cornbread, potatoes, the list goes on, and all of it was absolutely delicious!

The rest of the family had their supper in the formal dining room.

For the dining room table, tulips and daffodils were placed in a tall milk glass vase.

So simple, but pretty.

In the keeping room the tulips were placed in a glass vase that used to hold a candle.
The daffodils were placed in small milk glass vases on mirrored pedestals.

I've saved the best for last.
My sweet, amazing, lovely, kind, gracious, loving, mother.
I love her so and thank God she is still with us.

  1. What a special and happy celebration. Something to be very thankful for. I had a breast cancer diagnosis on April 1st, 2013 and I am coming up on my 2 year anniversary. It does make you stop and think and want to really make each day count. My family was wonderful and so supporting. You had so many pretty decorations. I too love Milk Glass and flowers are always nice. My mother and Aunt both had breast cancer as well. I hope that someday they will find a cure!

  7. Cindy,
What a beautiful post celebrating your mother's life with your family. The photos of the tulips and daffodils are beautiful. Every time I see chandeliers like yours over a dining table, I try to envision one over my dining table.

  10. Cindy, While all your decorations are simply beautiful they are outshone by your beautiful mom who has put breast cancer in its place. God bless her. I know how scary it is to have someone in your family with cancer.

  15. So happy your mother is able to continue enjoying a happy life. She looks charming. I love your dining room and wonder what color it is painted? Google is showing me as no-reply blogger despite everything I've tried. If you would leave the color info on your comments section or blog, I would so appreciate it. I'm sooooo tired of beigey-yellow walls.
