The Keeping Room

Saturday, August 30, 2014

I just shared my S p e c i a l P l a c e  with you...

The one down the road a spell,

that is old and full of history,

with the farmhouse kitchen!

Well,
there is another room we are making decisions for...

the

The keeping room dates back to colonial days and was located just off the kitchen.

In those days this room was filled with utilitarian pieces such as jelly cupboards,

samplers children would stitch as part of their schooling,

hand-hooked rugs,

candles to read by,

wooden bowls and buckets,

rocking chairs and tables made of pine,

baskets for gathering from the garden and storing goods.

Farmhouse Kitchen with a Twist ~ My Special Place

Thursday, August 28, 2014

I often travel to this special place.

It's located down the road a spell and just around the bend...

It's old.

Made of stone and wood.

Full of history.

If these walls could talk, the amazing stories she could share...

Welcome to AMAZE ME MONDAY!

We've been camping this week in Bristol TN and have had such a good time.
First, we love to camping in our RV.
Second, we love to spend time with family and friends.
Third, it was GREAT to take a break from all the demo and dust going on with the kitchen remodel!

A little recap of what I've shared this week...

Our Summer Garden...

The Bee's Buzz...

It's always Exciting, something I'll never grow tired of...

It's Exciting

Sunday, August 24, 2014

There are some things I'll never grow tired of.

Some are small

and some are very large,

but no matter their size it is always exciting to see the Barred Owls back at the porch.

There must be something special about this tree at the end of our porch

because they come very often to perch and spend the day...

The Buzz

Friday, August 22, 2014

Hi Sweet Friends!

It's a beautiful day and I've been enjoying the bees,

watching them happily buzz from one bloom to another,

so here's a little something to brighten your day...

Summer Garden

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Are the leaves changing colors and falling in your neck of the woods?  They are here in North Carolina.

It's amazing how fast summer is flying by,

and since the maple and dogwood leaves are already turning colors and falling

I thought I would take a stroll through the summer garden before the flowers fade away.

This spring I decided to Keep the Entry Simple by just planting ferns

and they have done really well...

Along the flower beds the Liriope muscari is in full bloom...

Summer Porch

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

I spruced things up on the porch and shared the new porch pillows with you, but guess what?!

I realized that I haven't shared the other summer touches added to the porch and thought I better get to it before autumn arrives!

Amaze Me Monday #71

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Welcome to Amaze Me Monday, I am so glad you are here to party with me!

Can you believe it's already August, where does the time go?
Summer is flying by,
children are already heading back to school,
and the Autumn season is fast approaching.

Here's a little recap of what I've shared this week, in case you missed it...

On the Farm

Antiques & Ironstone Finds

Saturday, August 9, 2014

While visiting my sister on the farm
we decided to take a trip to town for a little antique shopping.

I have been searching for a little something for display on the kitchen island and this antique scale with brass bowls will be perfect.

I have already polished the bowl on the right
and once I regain the strength in my arm (it took a long time!) I will do the other one...

On the Farm

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Farm life,.

It's like a step back in time when I visit.

On my sister and her husbands farm there are
Friesian horses,
every kind of duck,
a pond full of turtles,
cats,
dogs,
Bonita the deer,
field upon field of hay and sunflowers,
beautiful gardens,
and the list goes on.

Amaze Me Monday #70

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

It was a rainy Saturday,
the kind of day you just want to stay inside, or at least I did anyway.

But Mr. Heart and I had to go the appliance store to make a decision on the hood vent we purchased for the kitchen, so we headed out.

Afterwards, we stopped by one of our favorite spots for some lunch and then decided to swing by Sweet Frog for some dessert.  It was still cloudy outside but the rain had stopped so after making our purchase we headed outside like we usually do to eat our frozen yogurt by the fountain.
If you follow me on Instagram you know where I am going with this...

Notice what I am wearing?

A jacket!
It's the first of August in the South and it was too chilly to eat frozen yogurt outside without a jacket, I am loving this weather.

Tweaks in the Guest Room

Friday, August 1, 2014

Having just shared the Guest Room Reveal I was a little surprised to be tweaking this room already.
Actually, I couldn't believe this change didn't come to mind earlier.

Are you like me,
you get used to something being in a certain place for so long that it never dawns on you to move it?

Such is the case with the love seat being in front of the guest room window.
It has been there for a long time and I was used to it being there,
but it's time to move.
