Guest Bedroom Sneak Peek

Thursday, July 24, 2014

We've been getting so much rain.

I'm not complaining, it's nice having a green lawn in late July, but cloudy skies make it hard to take pictures of the guest bedroom.

So today when the sun finally decided to come out for a few minutes,
I snapped a some pictures to share a sneak peek of the updated room with you.

Here is how it looked before...

The walls and ceiling were two different shades of brown.
It was the color our daughter wanted back when she was in high school, which was a long time ago, so updating this room was l-o-n-g overdue!

It took a while to find the right paint color.
Several times I went to Benjamin Moore,
purchased samples,
painted the colors on poster board,
but no luck.

You see, I was working around this...

Yes, this pattern is old.

But the loveseat is in great condition and I like the pattern and colors, so I couldn't see spending the money to get it reupholstered when there are so many other things on my to-do list.

They say the third time's a charm, for me it was four.
Finally, the perfect color and it Light French Gray by Beher.
Sherwin Williams matched this color for me...

It took 2 coats of tinted primer and 2 coats of paint to cover the light brown paint on the ceiling

and also

2 coats of tinted primer and 2 coats of paint to cover the darker brown on the walls.

And then there was the door, trim, and louvered closet doors to paint.

Needless to say, I was so glad when the painting was finished!

Here's the guest bedroom now...

The bedding is new...

And the window treatments are new...

While I was snapping pictures, Ellie snuggled up on the couch to enjoy the brief bit of sunshine...

When the sun decides to shine again I'll take pictures to share more of the details,

hope you enjoyed the sneak peek.

I am really enjoying this paint color, it's so much brighter in the room now.

Do you like it?

  2. Oh my lands, Cindy - I LOVE it! I really, really do! That fabric on that loveseat is gorgeous, no need to cover it, and your colors are stunning. I love smocked curtains - they are the epitome of romance to me. Such a dreamy space - so worth the extra effort in the painting. Just beautiful. WOW!

  5. It all looks so fresh and clean! I really like the old dresser. It reminds me of my Grandmother's . . . that I have in storage and really need to do something with!

  6. Cindy...you did a heck of a job! Very wise to keep the sofa, the colors are perfect and I am such a fan of soft grays. I really enjoyed your pictures, I was really loving all of the old pieces of furniture. Are they family heirlooms? And the bedding is gorgeous. I think you did a fabulous job!

  15. Hi Cindy,
I do like it, and it is gorgeous with all that beautiful white bedding......so pretty and fresh.
Like your love seat too, and bet it looks great with the grey walls. I don't mind painting
it is the prep work I hate.........if I could pay someone to come tape everything and lay
down all the drop clothes, then I could paint away.............lol Not great with trim work
    tho, much better with rolling............lol
Glad you got her done, that is a great feeling.
    Have a great weekend hon,
    Blessings, Nellie
Oh yea, love your antique sewing machine, so pretty.
